The Story
Remember Eaton's?
Eaton's grew from a Toronto dry-goods business into one of Canada's defining department-store institutions, remembered for catalogues, downtown flagships and generations of family shopping traditions.
Timothy Eaton established his Toronto business in 1869. Eaton's expanded into a national department-store and catalogue institution whose name became woven into Canadian retail culture. The original company entered bankruptcy and ceased operating in 1999; the Eaton's name continued for a limited period afterward under new ownership.
